Wood Finishing Department Lead
Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Wood Finishing Department Lead to oversee our Wood Components Finishing Department. Our Finishing Department is responsible for finishing wood cabinet doors, drawer fronts, moulding, wainscoting and other cabinetry-related wood products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in color matching, mixing, spraying, staining and glazing to ensure our products meet the highest standards of quality. This role requires excellent leadership capabilities to guide a team while maintaining a focus on safety, productivity, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the department’s daily operations, ensuring adherence to production schedules and quality standards.
- Oversee the operations within the department and ensure flow of product.
- Conduct quality inspections throughout the production process to ensure compliance with specifications and standards.
- Ability to read customer order paperwork.
- Train new employees and provide cross training for coverage during vacations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement in processes and workflows.
- Train and mentor team members on best practices
- Create Standard Operating Procedures for all roles and update as needed.
- Order paint/stain and supplies for the department as needed
- Responsible for cleanliness, upkeep, filter changes etc. within the department.
- High degree of detail required.
Experience
- Proven experience in a wood finishing role is required!
- Familiarity with quality inspection processes and precision measuring instruments is essential.
- Experience in writing SOP’s
- Must be able to distinquish colors
- Prior experience in a leadership role is preferred.
Hour are generally 6:00 a.m. 2:30 p.m. with required OT when necessary.
